We are IN THIS TOGETHER!

We all know, COVID is far from over, and Dayton Metro Library wants to make sure everyone has the opportunity to connect to the resources they need to protect themselves, and others, especially our most vulnerable – young children and those who are medically compromised.

Effective July 19, 2022, masks are required for all Dayton Metro Library Staff, Volunteers and Vendors. Masks are strongly encouraged for visitors and event attendees. Masks are available at the AskMe Desk. Thank you for helping slow the high transmission rate of COVID in our region!

Free COVID test kits can now be ordered through the United States Postal Service here. Additional resources can be found here.

Dayton Metro Library Branches have a limited inventory In-Stock of COVID home self-test kits available for pickup.

Currently there is a limit of 3 kits per vehicle. Each box contains 1-2 tests.

Please watch this page for updates on kit availability. We will update our website regarding test availability as inventory changes. We encourage our patrons to visit the Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County website to view other testing options and locations as well. They may also be reached at 937.225.6217.

How to Obtain an Over-the-Counter Self-Test Kit from DML:

Patrons interested in receiving an over-the-counter self-test kit should call the Library’s Ask Me Line at 937.463.2665.

The Ask Me Line will make arrangements with you as to what DML Branch you wish to pick your test kit up from. Once you arrive at your selected Branch location, the take home kits will be delivered to your vehicle by Library staff via our curbside service with safety protocols in place.

Library staff will not be able to assist with the administering of the tests nor should the test be used in any Library building. However, instructions on how to administer the test at home are provided in the kit and are easy to follow.

Currently there is a limit of 3 kits per vehicle.

About the Test Kit:

The Dayton Metro Library is working with the Ohio Department of Health to offer free COVID over-the-counter self-test kits. The offering of self-tests is to help meet the needs of many people who need to be tested in Dayton Metro Library communities.

The Antigen Self-Test is for personal use only and will not produce a documented result that can be used for travel, to return to work or school, or to be released from quarantine. Each kit contains two self-tests.

If a patron has to have a documented test result, and the Library doesn’t have proctored test kits on hand, please visit the state’s rapid testing website to find other options for testing.

Testing School-age Children:

All schools in Ohio (K-12) have access to free home tests from the state and can request one test by contacting TestingRequests@odh.ohio.gov.

Employers Providing Tests to Employees:

If an employer requests a test to give to a symptomatic employee or to support regular screening of non-vaccinated employees, that employer should visit coronavirus.ohio.gov/rapidtest to obtain guidance on testing programs, as tests may not be directly provided to an employer for testing their employees.

Expiration Dates

In the event a patron has a question or concern about a possible expiration date on their test kit, they may visit coronavirus.ohio.gov. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the down arrow in the “expiration dates” field. Follow the link labeled “BinaxNOW Home tests” or “BinaxNOW Traditional tests.” Each document offers information on expiration date extensions based on the lot number of a kit. We have been getting tests from various brands, if you did not get a BinaxNOW kit, you can also check into iHealthLabs and Acon Labs.

For further questions regarding the test kits we have available or how to arrange a test kit pick up, please call the Dayton Metro Library’s Ask Me Line at 937.463.2665.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate COVID-19’s changing landscape.
